Introduction:

Information Technology has revolutionized the concept of economic superiority among nations. India is rightly poised to become a global super power in the area of information revolution in the light of the proactive IT policy initiatives taken by the Government of India. Towards achieving the objective of making India an infotech super power focussed efforts are needed by both the Government and the private sector in India. While Government can play more of a facilitator role through right IT policy formulations and providing incentives, private initiative should come in a big way in manpower development, R&D and IT software development. Even though there has been a spurt in mushrooming of private organisations and companies in IT software development, the efforts in quality R&D and manpower development at higher levels are inadequate. In this context world-class Centres of Excellence in Information Technology are to be established and nurtured.

IT holds great promise in helping India leapfrog to become a developed nation. The use of IT in strategic areas like Defence and Space, Agricultural Sector, Women Empowerment, E-Commerce, Oceanography, Seismology, Environment Conservation, Transportation Planning, Resource Planning, Remote Sensing and Demographic Forecasting will help meet the critical needs of Indian society. The field of E-learning can transform India into a knowledge powerhouse.

Properly executed high end IT training programs have the potential to equip senior professionals with the knowledge to appreciate and build on their skills to deliver strategic value to their organisations.

The Government of India considers Information Technology as an agent of transformation of every facet of human life that will bring about a knowledge-based society in this 21st century. It is believed that we are at the beginning of a new dawn in the creation of leadership in India for IT research.

The International School of Computer Science and Information Technology (ISCSAIT) has been established by JNIAS to undertake advanced research and training in the field of Computer Science & Information Technology and to develop the ISCSAIT as a Centre for Excellence in conducting path-breaking research, high end training and distance education programmes in Computer Science and Information technology.
